Inside Line Promotions – MT. POCONO, Pa. (Dec. 28, 2020) – Joey Amantea is set to compete in four divisions when he invades the 36th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout this week in search of a coveted Golden Driller trophy.

Amantea will take part in winged and non-wing outlaw competition along with winged and non-wing 'A' class action. This will be his fourth trip to the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., which hosts this week’s event from Wednesday through Saturday.

"We had a really good year and I feel like we have a good enough program to get in the show in at least one class," he said. "We're going into the weekend with a ton of confidence and I'm really looking forward to the opportunity."

Last year Amantea produced his career-best performance in the event when he qualified for the B Main in three of the four classes he competed in. Following a career season in the micro sprint ranks that saw the Mt. Pocono, Pa., native capture three wins, Amantea is hoping to continue that growth during the premier event.

"We were so close last year and we were able to upgrade our equipment a bit, so I feel like we have as good of a chance as anyone," he said. "It seems the tradition is that the guys traveling to Tulsa from Pennsylvania are the guys to beat and knowing we were able to hold our own against those guys at home gives me a lot of confidence that we can there as well."

With his offseason focus having shifted toward the 360ci sprint car ranks and his team busy preparing for an all-out assault on the Rookie of the Year award with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast wingless sprint cars, Amantea is excited about the opportunity to get back behind the wheel and have some fun racing against several hundred drivers.

Not only will he be bringing new equipment and his father, but his new crew chief, Joe Sease, will be along as well. This will be the duo's first opportunity to work together at the track.

"This will be a great opportunity to be able to work alongside my new crew chief and get that communication thing going a little earlier together," Amantea said. "He's got a big background in winged sprint car racing and while he's not really a micro guy, I think he can bring a ton to our winged program as that's where we're really lacking.

"Any time you can get to the track and get talking and learning about each other you're making progress. I'm excited to see what we can do and get 2021 started on a high note.”
