Crouch Places Career-Best Second to Lead Hi-Plains Building Division Team at Tulsa Shootout

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 7, 2020) – Brenham Crouch enjoyed a stout performance on the biggest stage in micro sprint racing last weekend when he posted a runner-up result during the 35th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout.

Crouch led the Hi-Plains Building Division team owned by Leighton Crouch as the only team driver to make an A Main at the spectacle held inside the River Spirit Expo Center, where a record entry count of more than 1,300 invaded the marquee event.

“I was very pleased with how well Joey (Starnes) and the team had the car,” Leighton Crouch said. “It was very well balanced and they had it rolling. Brenham could go one way or another. At the end of the day you have to put the complete race together and we just fell a bit short to win.”

Crouch won a heat race from eighth before he advanced from fourth to second place in a qualifier, which earned enough combined points to garner the pole position for the 25-lap Restricted ‘A’ Class main event.

“(Ryan) Timms led the first lap and then we took the lead on Lap 2,” Leighton Crouch said. “We were driving away. We had a couple of cautions, but kept driving away on the restarts. We got to traffic and two cars got together. Brenham went to the high side and it opened down low for (Jade) Avedisian.”

Crouch dropped to second on Lap 19 and was unable to make a move for the lead in the closing laps, finishing second by less than six tenths of a second.

Crouch also finished in a Last Chance Qualifier – only four positions shy of making the main event – in the Winged ‘A’ Class division.

Teammate Joey Starnes, who is the team’s crew chief, ended in a B Main in the Winged ‘A’ Class. Jake Hagopian made the Last Chance Qualifier in Stock Non-Wing and a B Main in Winged Outlaw. Hayden Baughman advanced to a B Main in the Restricted ‘A’ Class and Carson Reutzel finished in a B Main in the Junior Sprints division.

“Joey and John (Binz) tuned eight cars all while trying to race themselves,” Leighton Crouch said. “They did a great job.”

The team returns to action Feb. 28-29 at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, with the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division. Brenham Crouch will tackle Winged ‘A’ Class and Stock Non-Wing full time with the series this season.

“I think we know what we’ve got and we have the speed to compete at every track,” Leighton Crouch said. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
