Flud Captures Top Five During Tulsa Shootout to Extend Top-10 Streak at Event to Eight Consecutive Years

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 7, 2021) – Frank Flud advanced into the coveted A Main during three of the four classes he tackled last week when the River Spirit Expo Center featured the 36th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout.

His best run was a fourth-place showing in the winged ‘a’ class, a division in which Flud won a heat race and maneuvered from third to second in a qualifier to lock directly into the feature.

“That’s the only class I haven’t won a Driller in,” he said. “That’s the one I want to win the most. The track prep made it hard. Even though I ran fourth I didn’t have the speed I needed.”

Flud gained a pair of positions during the main event to finish fourth, marking the eighth straight year he has earned at least one result in the top six during the marquee micro sprint event.

“To be honest, it’s hard to pull positives because I want to win and didn’t get to show it,” he said. “But I have a kid who I’m working with, Jace Park, who ran the stock non-wing division, and that was my most positive note. He made his first feature straight out of his qualifier and ran in the top five most of the race. I think he finished seventh. The kid might have 30 dirt races under his belt.”

That division was the lone one of the four that Flud entered that didn’t yield an A Main start after he was crashed while being in a great position in a qualifier. His run ended in the Last Chance Qualifier.

However, Flud posted results of 11th in the non-wing outlaw feature and 19th in the winged outlaw main event – the latter a DNF after maneuvering into the top five.

“In the outlaw winged feature I felt like I had the speed,” he said. “I was set up for the end of the race. Halfway I started making moves, coming up through the field. My clutches in the engine went out so that ended our race early.”

Flud will return to the River Spirit Expo Center next week in a midget during the 35th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire. He will make his debut with Hayward Motorsports on Tuesday during preliminary action prior to the event finale on Saturday.
